Testimonials

From the community...

"WUMCO is a favorite charity of mine because of their
commitment to local Poolesville area folks who need a little help to get them through a tough time. A little food here, a utility bill there, a ride to a doctor here—these are services that WUMCO has provided to folks who are less fortunate and unable to provide for themselves. WUMCO founder Jane Stearns and her dear departed husband Fred have been inspirations to all who know them for their unselfish service to others."
Bernie Mihm, volunteer and business owner, Fine Earth Landscape Company

"Saint Peter’s is proud to support and work with WUMCO. WUMCO is important, not only to those who are helped, but to the whole up-county. The spirit of helping each other is central to the nature of our communities and WUMCO embodies that spirit in a caring and consistent way."
The Rev. Tom Purdy, Rector, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Poolesville.

"WUMCO became of a part of my life I 1994 when I participated in a program sponsored by the Poolesville Jaycees and assisted by WUMCO to collect and deliver toys to children in the area who otherwise would have had no Christmas. Since that time I have watched this program, and all the other wonderful services of WUMCO, grow through the support of the community and the guidance of a truly amazing couple, Fred and Jane Stearns. Although Fred has passed away, his amazing wife Jane still serves our community day in and day out with nary a prejudice and with a heart the size of our universe."
Valaree Dickerson, community activist and Commissioner, Town of Poolesville

From WUMCO clients...

"On Christmas 2012, we would like to thank you for the opportunity to receive Holiday Baskets and Toys that were distributed through WUMCO HELP.  Our three children, (names deleted for privacy reasons), were so happy with the gifts and they would like to thank you too for your kindness.  Once again thank you for the gifts and may God Almighty bless you all the times."
Sincerely, N. J.

"WUMCO has helped me in so many ways. When I have had nothing, they have been a Godsend for me and my family. There is not enough thanks in the world for how much they are appreciated by us. And we love the WUMCO staff!"

"We go way back with WUMCO—food baskets, utility assistance, transportation, medicines. Service is outstanding. I don’t know what we would do without them. We appreciate everything."

From a parent...

I am a single mother with Lupus and Celiac disease. Divorced for the past 4 years, I thought by now times would have gotten better. I am currently working a 35 hour work week at an elementary school, making $20,000 a year. There have been many times when there just is not enough money to pay for all the bills, rent, car payment, food and items for the children. There have been nights when I have stayed awake trying to figure out how I am going to pay this bill or that bill.

It is very comforting knowing I can pick up the phone and call WUMCO and know I am going to hear a very warm friendly voice on the other end willing to help me. I always make it my last resort as I know there are others in our community who probably need more help than I. WUMCO has always been there for me and my family. Wonderful Thanksgiving baskets, more than generous Holiday gifts for the children and peace of mind for me knowing that my children will have full tummies on Thanksgiving and a magical Christmas morning opening up gifts. I hope one day I will be in a better position to repay WUMCO for all their heartfelt generosity.
